Anhydride

An oxide of a nonmetallic body or an organic radical, capable of forming an acid by uniting with the elements of water; -- so called because it may be formed from an acid by the abstraction of water.

Anhydrite

A mineral of a white or a slightly bluish color, usually massive. It is anhydrous sulphate of lime, and differs from gypsum in not containing water (whence the name).

ankylostomiasis ancylostomiasis

A disease caused by the hookworm parasites of the genus Ancylostoma (especially Ancylostoma duodenale), and Necator americanus. Typically, infection in humans occurs in the small intestine. In the small intestine they suck the blood from the wall and, when present in large numbers, produce a severe anaemia. Called also miner's anaemia, tunnel disease, brickmaker's anaemia, Egyptian chlorosis.
